Paula Cole - La esperanza está en todas partes

 

Han pasado 23 años desde que Paula Cole se preguntaba dónde ponía el fuego que la invadía en su disco multipremiado "This Fire", y escuchando su nuevo y valiente sencillo, "Hope is everywhere", parece que todavía tiene muchas llamas encendidas en su interior. 

Aquella mujer de voz prodigiosa que se hizo famosa buscando a los vaqueros en "Where have all the cowboys gone?", mantiene su espíritu intacto con el paso de los años, y sigue demostrando incansablemente lo buena artista que es. 

En este blog, su nombre ha salido varias veces, y es que para mí es uno de mis referentes a la hora de hablar de música, y todo lo que hace, lo escucho con suma atención.

Aquí hablamos de la presentación de "Ithaca" o de su monstruosa canción, "Throwing stones", pero se merece muchos más artículos porque su música nunca te deja indiferente.

"Revolution" será su décimo disco, y será publicado el 13 de Septiembre vía 675 Records. 

En esta ocasión comparte los mandos de la producción con Chris Bruce (Seal, Meshell Ndegeocello, My Brightest Diamond), tarea que solía desempeñar ella sola con bastante solvencia. 

Nos gustaría saber por qué se ha decantado por un productor esta vez, qué le ha hecho ver en estas canciones la necesidad de buscar nuevas texturas externas para definir su sonido final. 

Como ella misma explica, "Revolution" trata sobre romper el silencio, sobre despertar una revolución interior y encontrar un camino en estos tiempos convulsos con amor en nuestros corazones". 

Ha querido adelantar una canción, y menuda canción, de nombre "Hope is everywhere" que dura nada menos que diez minutos y medio. Que esto no eche para atrás a nadie, porque estamos ante un tema que se va desenrollando sobre sí mismo, quitándose las pieles hasta desembocar en... un tema de baile! Sí, aunque no lo parece, según le das al play, "Hope is everywhere" evoluciona en algo insólito.  Recientemente hemos podido escuchar una canción que crece en forma muy similar a ésta, y que también esconde un mensaje político claro, que es el "God control" de Madonna, aunque Paula aplica aquí un sentido más generalista a su discurso.

No es que Cole no haya tocado este estilo antes, recordemos ese "I believe in love" que tanto éxito tuvo con sus remixes, ni siquiera los mensajes políticos son nuevos para ella, ya que en sus canciones suele lanzar dardos envenenados a los políticos para que los ciudadanos tomen conciencia (en sus discos "Amen" y "This fire" había unos cuantos bien certeros). 

Para apoyar a la comunidad LGTBI, lo ha querido adelantar en el portal After Ellen y sobre la canción, nos cuenta:

"Hope is everywhere" surgió como una corriente consciente que se iba creando sin planificar. Comienza con un sonido lento R&B que explota en otro dance que sólo puede descrito como lo que ella llama "prog-disco". Es funky y te invita a bailar. Líricamente es un mensaje para aquellos que están experimentando una injusta discrimnación, intimidación y abusos legales en nuestro actual clima político. Especialmente la comunidad LGTBI (LGTBQ en inglés). Quiero que la gente sepa que estoy aquí apoyándolos. Y si nos quedamos abatidos yno actuamos y votamos, los intimidadores ganarán. Es una llamada a las armas. Espero que suene en los clubs, en los hogares, las cocinas, los salones, que os haga bailar, que nos juntemos, nos emponderemos y disfrutamos"

 

"Revolution" será un disco mayormente con tiznes reivindicativose e incluye colaboraciones de Meshell Ndegeocello, las vocalistas Nona Hendryx y Darcel Wilson o el pianista jazz y cantante Bob Thompson. El tema que da nombre al disco está inspirado en el asesinato de Martin Luther King, algo que marcó a Paula tremendamente.
