"Live blood" es la tercera parte de la aventura "blood" de Peter Gabriel. Primero fue "Scratch my back", el disco en el que versionaba temas de otros acompañado únicamente con una orquesta. Como Peter se quedó con las ganas de que los homenajeados le rindieran el favor haciendo un cover de un tema suyo (gente como Radiohead no estaba por la labor), fue el mismo Gabriel quien regrabó parte de su cancionero para "New blood", y ahora junta canciones de ambos discos en este "Live Blood".

Always willing to take the road less travelled, Peter Gabriel re-recorded other people's material with an orchestra on 2010's "Scratch my back", before doing the same with his own songs on last year's "New blood".
"Live blood" features versions of songs from both albums, and the concert setting adds excitement. Gabriel and the New Blood Orchestra play it straight on Paul Simon's "The boy in the bubble" and an elegant rendition of The Magnetic Fields' "The Book of love". But the ensemble take more risks with Gabriel's own songs, pulling them into bold new shapes, and peaking with a reading of his 1977 hit "Solsbury Hill" that sounds like the orchestra playing for their lives on a runaway train.
