London-based acoustic pop debutants think big.

Five-piece Fanfarlo make the sort of warm, trumpet-assisted indie that will leave bookish misfits and record shop employees hopelessly smitten. But though the influence of Belle & Sebastian is writ large here, the band’s ambitions extend beyond acoustic pop. “The walls are coming down” recalls the beer cellar sing-alongs of Beirut, while elsewhere they build tracks into Sufjan Stevens-aping mini-epics, complete with different sections and multi-instrumental crescendos. At times this means overloading slight ideas, but when they get it right, as on the glorious “Finish Line”, the results are irresistible.

Los debutantes Fanfarlo, procedentes de Londres, piensan grande en su pop acústico.

El quinteto Fanfarlo provoca la clase de calidez, ese indie asistido por trompetas que dejará a los inadaptados ratones de biblioteca y a los empleados de tiendas de disco desesperanzadamente afectados. Pero a pesar de la patente influencia de Belle & Sebastian aquí, las ambiciones de la banda se extiende más allá del pop acústico.

“The walls are coming down” recuerda las canciones de bodega de cerveza de Beirut, mientras que por el resto construyen tracks en la similitud de las mini-épicas de Sufjan Stevens, completadas con diferentes secciones y crescendos multi-instrumentales. A veces, esto significa sobrecargar ideas livianas, pero cuando aciertan, como en la gloriosa “Finish line”, los resultados son irresistibles.
